Nonlinear Programming (NLP) or Nonlinear Optimization is concerned with the minimization of a nonlinear scalar function of several (continuous) variables, possibly subject to general nonlinear equality and inequality constraints. This kind of problem arises in numerous and diverse applications and encompasses special cases such as linear, quadratic, and unconstrained problems. Although NLP can be considered as a mature field, new applications constantly motivate the development of methods and software as well as the theoretical basis to support them. The speakers in this symposium will present some of the latest developments in the theory and methods of Nonlinear Programming.
