October 2020

The year is moving apace. Just as well given the many disasters we have either experienced or witnessed. Reading focuses on the news with the necessary breaks to preserve sanity. Here is a little therapy for gloomy days: some of my favorite books.

Revelations and controversies about the stories or the authors drove some books from the main list. They are still excellent. One could almost argue that they exist on their own; that they were always there, just waiting to be written. Should we punish a book because of its author? I wonder. In any case, for me these books are a bit tainted now: To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee; Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck; and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling.
