With The Beatles — Haruki Murakami

This is a very evocative short story. In his usual darkish way, filled with nostalgia and a hint of regret, Murakami captures that elusive moment when your life is like an empty stage with the spotlight on, waiting for things to happen and at the same time experiencing a million things at once. Social interaction, first love, emotional and intellectual growth; everything is at play. During this time in our lives, music is one of the main ways to channel the experiences and emotions that define us and to deal with the constant changes. This period of time shapes who we will be. Yet it is so brief.

"She was hurrying down the long, dim hallway of the old school building, her skirt fluttering. I was the only other person there. She was clutching an LP to her chest as if it were something precious."

Because it was.
